(Summary)

According to a study, chronic cold exposure does you good, by increasing “brown fat cells,” which burn energy to produce heat. In response to cold, your body burns extra calories, which can lead to losing some weight. There may also be some additional metabolic benefits such as better insulin sensitivity. Furthermore, scientists expect that cold exposure and the brown fat cells can prevent diabetes, obesity and other metabolic diseases. However, especially people who suffer from heart disease need to be careful when exposed to cold because the cold could trigger a heart attack or stroke. A professor says that spending two hours a day in a 65-degree room should be enough to increase the brown fat cells. (117 words)
